He/ Him

Rebaz (ré-baaz) is originally from Iraqi Kurdistan where he started his journey as a human rights activist and dedicated his career to challenging systemic oppression. He is passionate about securing equal rights for marginalized groups, especially Women, LGBTQ+, and ethno-religious minorities. Recognizing his duties as a new settler, he began advocating for Indigenous Peoples; rights in 2017. More recently, he worked as a Settlement Worker supporting newcomers and refugees and advocating on their behalf.

Rebaz is also passionate about addressing Climate Change and its effects on the most vulnerable communities through research and community mobilization. He received a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Waterloo, and a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Sulaymaneyah. He is hopeful that his work and life experience will contribute to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals in finding safety and community and is excited to be a part of the Rainbow Railroad team that’s dedicated to that goal.
